Glueys Get Glueys

A tiny Gluey by your notch that reminds you to rest your eyes, hydrate and stretch.

Your Gluey is a little bunny or koi that lives beside your MacBook's notch. Through the day it pauses with you to rest your eyes, hydrate and stretch, at intervals drawn from eye-care and workplace-health research. No pop-ups, no sounds, and nothing ever leaves your Mac.

Real recordings from the app. Pick a moment to see your Gluey in action:

The Glueys

Meet the Glueys

Ripple, a white and coral koi with a big fan tail

Ripple

a koi in a drop of water

Swims in a little water bubble beside the notch. For each reminder the bubble drops down into a drop: it blows bubbles for water, jumps when it's time to stand, and soaks in coffee on a break.

Gloop, a little lavender bunny sitting with its paws on its tummy

Gloop

a little bunny

Sits on your menu bar by the notch and hops onto each reminder to do it with you: sips water, jumps when you stand, and munches a carrot on a break (no coffee for bunnies).

Moving it

Drag it

Drag your Gluey anywhere on the screen. Let go and it glides to its new home and settles in.

  • By the notch. Its home: in the menu bar, out of your way.
  • By the Dock. In the corner of the Dock's row, which macOS keeps free of windows.
  • Any edge or corner. It tucks in neatly, so it never sits on your work.
  • Back home any time. Right-click it, then Home → By the notch.

How it works

A normal morning

Straight from the app, on its default rhythm. You open the lid at nine and keep working.

  1. Lid open. Your Gluey rests by the notch, and that's all for a while.

  2. Rest your eyes. Three slow blinks together, then you both look far away for 20 seconds.

  3. Stand up. Happy jumps.

  4. Rest your eyes again.

  5. A real break. The koi soaks in a drop of coffee; the bunny has a carrot instead.

  6. Stand up, and drink some water on the way.

  7. Quiet hours. Asleep until morning.

If you're away from your Mac, it doesn't remind you of anything. Being away counts as the rest, and it starts counting again when you're back.

The Glueys menu: Gloop is with you, next: rest your eyes in 19 minutes, today 4 eye rests, 2 stand-ups, 1 break, 3 waters

Your day

It counts what you actually did

Right-click your Gluey (or click its icon in the menu bar) to see what's next and how your day is going.

  • Today at a glance. Eye rests, stand-ups, breaks and water you really did, not reminders you skipped.
  • Kept typing while you stood? Tap ✓ Done under your Gluey and it still counts.
  • Tell a friend about Glueys. Shares your own numbers: "On an average day, Gloop gets me to rest my eyes 9 times…"

Good manners

It knows when to stay out of the way

Calls

Hides while a call is using your microphone. It never listens.

Full screen

Steps aside for films and slides.

Silent

No sounds, no pop-ups, no badges. Ever.

Focus

25, 50 or 90 minutes with no reminders, and a cheer at the end.

Any Mac

Made for MacBooks with a notch; on other screens it sits at the top centre or wherever you drop it.

It learns

Skip a reminder often and it comes less often.

Privacy

It doesn't watch you

It only knows whether you're at your Mac or away. Nothing else.

Limits

What it can't do

  • It can't see you stand up if you keep typing. Tap ✓ Done and it counts.
  • It notices calls by a microphone being in use, so a listen-only webinar won't hide it. Use "Quiet for a while" in its menu.
  • It's a friendly nudge, not a health device. If something hurts, see a doctor.

FAQ

Questions

What can I change?

Everything about the rhythm, in Settings:

  • Style: Gentle, Balanced or Active, or your own
  • How often each reminder comes, or switch any of them off
  • How long you look away when resting your eyes (10–60 s)
  • When the daily deep breath comes
  • The most reminders you get (at most one every 10–120 min)
  • How long away counts as standing up, and as a real break
  • Quiet hours and weekends off
  • Hiding during calls and in full screen
  • Whether it learns to space out reminders you skip
  • Which Gluey, and where it lives
  • Opening it when you log in
Will it cover my menus or my work?

No. Clicks pass straight through everywhere except your Gluey itself, and nothing hangs over your pages unless a reminder is playing.

Does it work on an external display?

Yes. It lives on the screen with the menu bar; on a display without a notch it sits at the top centre, or wherever you drag it.

Does it show up when I share my screen?

No. It keeps itself out of screenshots and screen sharing, unless you turn that on in Settings.

Will it drain my battery?

No. Resting, it uses well under 1% of the processor, and nothing at all when your screen is off. It never keeps your Mac awake.

Is it medical advice?

No. The rhythm follows public screen-health guidance, but Glueys is a friendly nudge, not a health device. If something hurts, see a doctor.

Using Glueys

Where are the settings?

Right-click (or Control-click) your Gluey and choose Settings…, or click the Glueys icon in the menu bar.

How do I switch between Ripple and Gloop?

Right-click your Gluey and choose Gluey, or pick one in Settings. Your reminders and settings stay the same.

How do I move it?

Drag it anywhere. Drop it near the notch to send it home, or into the Dock's row to live in its corner. You can also right-click it and choose Home → By the notch or By the Dock.

How do I make it remind me less often?

In Settings choose Gentle, or turn off the reminders you don't want and set the minutes for the rest. You can also pause it for 30 minutes, an hour or until tomorrow from its menu.

It disappeared.

It hides on its own during full-screen apps, and during calls if you turned that on. It also sleeps during quiet hours. If it's gone for another reason, quit Glueys and open it again, then write to us.

Does it start when my Mac starts?

Only if you want it to: turn on "Open Glueys when I log in" in its Settings.

How do I remove it completely?

Quit it from its menu, then drag Glueys from Applications to the Trash. That also removes its settings.
